The Olympics is the highest pinnacle of the sporting career of any athlete. Patrick Odongo, alias, ‘Odoche’, left the country on Monday 8th 2024 under the auspices of the Kenya Shujaa, the Kenya National Mens’ team for Rugby 7s.
In September 2023, Patrick Odongo, a Daystar Rugby Falcons team member, pushed two of three goals that saw Kenya Rugby 7s team, Shujaa clinch the Africa title, in a contested final match against South Africas’ Springboks, in September 2023 in Zimbabwe. Attainment of this feat would make Shujaa qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics beginning on 26th July, 2024.
Odongo is a Community Development major in the School of Applied Human Sciences. In the field, he is a winger, dotting number ’11 as the speedy man of the team. As a Shujaa, he aims to contribute to the delivery of the gold medal or at least be in the gold bracket of the tournament.
