The year 2020 took away the joy of playing sports physically due to COVID-19 pandemic. While the Chess team resorted to play online, this could not replace the thrill of physical Chess.
The Nakuru Open 2021 brought positive vibe as Daystar University sent a team of 8 players: 6 Men and 2 Ladies, under the leadership of Karan Christie who graduated last year. The two-day tournament saw over 120 players from across Kenya converge at the Waterbuck Hotel on 31 st July and 1st August 2021. The game consisted of 7 rounds; the largest and most competitive tourney for the last two years
Out of 7 participating universities, Daystar Chess Falcons scooped Position 1 emerging as the top university with 19 points. The top scorer was Weldon Ngetich (Former Captain) along with Glen Kingoina with 4.5/7 points respectively.
The Daystar Chess Falcons was represented by the Team captain Brian Ngetich, Carlos Musungu, Jackline Wambugu, Olive Sang, Vincent Muthuiya, Karan Christie, Glen Kingoina and Weldon Ngetich.
“I would like to thank Daystar management for giving us the opportunity to participate in this prestigious event.
